Official Looks at the Heartfelt Sneaker Room x Nike Kyrie 5 “Mom”

Kyrie Irving’s late mom Elizabeth lost her battle with breast cancer when the All-Star point guard was only four years old. It’s never a good time to lose your mom, but at just 4? That’s heartbreaking. So it’s no surprise that the event has left a lasting impact on Irving, who has consistently honored her throughout his career, writing her name and the date she passed on sneaker’s he has laced up during games, to a fully-fledged sneaker collaboration with New Jersey sneaker store Sneaker Room back in 2017 on the Nike Kyrie 3. Now, having recently moved to the other side of the Hudson River from the store, he’s back with another tributed edition of his signature line. The “Mom” Nike Kyrie 5 picks up where the three left off, arriving in the same black, white and red makeup. Oversized rose motifs return, this time in 3D embroidery on the right heel, and an asymmetrical love heart on the left. The latter appears stitched all over the pair’s white mesh upper in red and gold, with indistinct handwritten-style etchings wedged throughout the hearts. Bold red embroidered Swooshes complete the pair’s hefty needlework, and a tri-color sole unit mirrors the upper. Returning again is the polka-dotted liners and modified Kyrie logos that now read “MOM,” and the pair comes complete with mismatched insoles; one displays Sneaker Room’s Blue Ribbon-styled foundation logo, the other a handwritten message from Kyrie: I Love You Mom

Like 2017’s release — and the store’s recently previewed three-pack of Breast Cancer Awareness React Element 87s — it’s likely that the shoes will release in extremely limited quantities, and most definitely with proceeds going to charity. Yet the official images that have surfaced today (below) suggest that a wider release may occur on Nike.com, but that is yet to be confirmed. So too has the release date, but with Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicking off in a few days, you can expect news to follow shortly, so stay tuned for more.
