If you were on the internet back in February 2014, you likely came across a 36-second news clip that showed KOIN reporter Lisa Balick interviewing a couple on a random snowy Saturday in Portland, Oregon. The unexpected interview went viral because the couple was out for a run on a 25-degrees Fahrenheit evening, citing that the snow-covered ground provided "the perfect texture for running."
Nike's latest Pegasus Premium running shoe is commemorating the moment—not so much because Chelsea Bauch and her partner said anything profound—but because the couple's brief interaction with Balick ended in a moment of irony: Bauch slipped on ice, disproving her previous claim on that outing seeing the optimal running conditions.
Watch for yourself below:
Bauch has since been able to laugh about the whole thing. She's left runners across the world a lighthearted meme that gets brought up whenever it's snowing and a run needs to get done.
The Nike Running Team pays homage to Bauch's fall and memorable phrase by prepping the beloved Peg Premium in a "Photon Dust/Bright Cactus/Industrial Blue/Metallic Silver" colorway that faithfully recreates the hues worn by the three people featured on KOIN that random Feb. 8. 2014: blue reflects Balick's jacket, a lime-like tone nods to Bauch's partner, and "Photon Dust" references Bauch's own reflective outerwear on that evening.
On the premium Pegasus, the color scheme is largely relegated to the innovative sole unit, although parts of the breathable upper see hits of "Dusty Cactus" and "Industrial Blue."

The special-edition Nike Pegasus also references the viral news clip from 12 years ago through its custom insoles. The left shoe's insert features a Swoosh-branded red "LIVE" graphic like what appears on news programs like KOIN. Bauch's words—"The Perfect Texture For Running"—appear underneath.
(It's important to note that although Nike recalls the memeable slip with this thematic release, the Pegasus Premium is not equipped with any enhanced rubber tread nor waterproof uppers. For that, you'll have to rely on the Pegasus 42 GORE-TEX. So, be careful if you decided to wear this Peg Premium in the snow.)
Enjoy detailed photos of the Pegs below as you wait for a firm Nike.com release. Currently, only Men's sizing has surfaced, although a Women's version should join soon.
