These days, the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team (USMNT) isn't heralded much for its awe-inspiring performances or fiery personalities, but there was a time it was. Nike Football is taking a trip down memory lane to revisit this era—specifically 2004—and reissue Total 90-branded items for USA.
The latest nostalgic effort in an ongoing initiative to retro football gear from the early aughts, the USMNT joins the ranks of Netherlands and Brazil in having its signature colors appear on retro product once more. A complete tracksuit is accompanied by a numberless Replica Jersey donning white, red, and blue colors. As has been the case with other T90 Reissue capsules by the Swoosh, the North American effort highlights one key player from the era's squad, landing on none other than Landon Donovan.
Today, the Ontario, California-native might be better known for his comments on the sport, but he was once (and is still widely considered) one of USA's best players. Over the course of two decades, Donovan represented clubs like Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Everton FC, and LA Galaxy, but he's largely known for leading the USMNT through handfuls of memorable matches throughout the 2000s and early 2010s.
Never one to shy away from competition, especially against the Mexican National Team, Donovan best exemplified what a captain and number 10 were despite sometimes rocking a different number for his nation. Regardless of USA's historic insignificance in CONCACAF throughout most of the last 40 years, the team could never be counted out when Landon Donovan laced up his boots for the team. From Dos a Cero mockery to (allegedly) desecrating rival club's emblems, he was no stranger to controversy and an ill reputation, but one thing can't be denied: he fought like few others have for the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team.
The Landon Donovan Total 90 Reissue Jersey features the number 10 on the front and back, with the latter area also boasting large Donovan text. Curved mesh panels and contrasting piping reprise their roles, celebrating Nike Football's beloved T90 franchise decades after its heyday.
All items feature the logo used by the USMNT from 1995 to 2015.
Enjoy detailed photos of the entire collection ahead. A Nike.com release should take place before summer ends, with prices ranging between $80 and $160.
