As we head towards the crescendo of the Air Max 90 and Air Max 95’s anniversary celebrations, it has become more apparent that Nike has been shifting its focus back towards other icons of the line in preparation for the year ahead. Notably, it has been the Air Max 1 that has been the supplementary focal point for the Swoosh, with collaboration from DENHAM and a trio of Powerwall-inspired Retros providing a solid lead-in to 2021. The pairs just mentioned are maximal in comparison to this ultra-minimal Summit White/Tawny Air Max 1, which is dressed from toe to tail in tonal white.
The barebones aesthetic is carried over to the omission of the Swoosh overlay in favor of a debossed effect, while a new logo lock-up, one that sees the Swoosh cut down the middle and split-toned with hits of the titular tan. But there’s more to it than that. The aforementioned blank overlays possess a wear-away attribute, which, going by the pair’s accompanying removal cloth, reveals that its overlays come colored in tan, transforming the pair into an entirely new entity.
