Sneaker and cinema culture converge, as Timothee Chalamet has crafted a special-edition Nike Dunk Low "Wonka" inspired by his starring role in the upcoming film of the same name.
During a visit to Nike's headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, Chalamet immersed himself in a real-life Willy Wonka-esque experience. "I never thought I'd get the chance to design a Nike shoe, let alone a Dunk," Chalamet shared in an exclusive interview with Complex. The result is spectacular, blending whimsical elements with sophisticated design.
The "Wonka" Dunks are housed in a robust wooden box, with a plush velvet shoe bag adorned with an elegant "W" to cradle the sneakers. The design is a playful wonder: a medley of purple, burgundy, and blue hues, applied with a crayon-like effect, dances across the upper. This lively pattern contrasts perfectly with the refined and ornate profile Swooshes. The laces, tongues, top eyelets, and inner lining mirror the elegance of Wonka's suit and complete the enchanting look.
"It's unlike any pair of Dunks I've ever seen," Chalamet remarked, noting his inspiration from Nike SB's "What the Dunk" and sacai x Nike layering techniques.
In a nod to the spirit of "Wonka," Nike will host a unique giveaway to promote the film. Fans are encouraged to submit 1-minute videos showcasing their Willy Wonka-inspired creativity to win one of these exclusive pairs, which are limited to just five units.
