Shareef O’Neal has officially unveiled “Shareef by Shaq,” his first collection since taking on the role of Creative Director at SHAQ Brand.
The project made its debut during New York Fashion Week, giving the first look at a range of footwear shaped heavily by Shareef’s own story. Several different executions were previewed, ranging from cleaner neutral pairs to bolder red, black and graphic-covered designs.
One of the collection’s most personal details is a zipper running across the upper, inspired by the scar from Shareef’s open-heart surgery. The design also introduces an open-heart “R” logo, turning another part of his experience into a recurring identity for the collection.
That storytelling continues through the hardware. Four snaps appear across select pairs, referencing both the four chambers of the human heart and Shaquille O’Neal’s four NBA championships.
The initial “Shareef by Shaq” lineup shows several approaches to the silhouette, including lace-up versions alongside zippered constructions and tonal pairs in black, cream, red and grey. More expressive graphic treatments also appear across the collection.
The NYFW unveiling marks the first major project from Shareef in his new creative role with SHAQ Brand, connecting his own experiences with elements of his father’s basketball legacy.
Release details and pricing for the Shareef by Shaq collection have not yet been announced.
