The King lives on.
During LeBron’s signature sneaker’s peak of popularity, one sneaker stood out as the majority’s “grail”; the Versace-like “Watch the Throne” Nike LeBron 9. Fuelled by ex-bros Kanye West and Jay-Z’s unforgettable “Watch The Throne” tour of 2011/12, the basic black pair popped with metallic golds, floral prints and insanely oversized ornamental lace lock ensured that the LeBron 9 PE would become and still is — one of the most sought-after LBJ PEs of all-time.
Nike is now looking to revisit the iconic PE in celebration of the King’s 15th consecutive NBA All-Star appearance. The Swoosh will be taking the colorway cues to the ion-session silhouette, the LeBron 16, continuing the same theme of black, gold and floral hits on the new Battleknit uppers. It’s also including the over-zealous lace-lock in it’s original form.
A release date for February 17th and an MSRP of $200 is noted., and at this stage, the sole retailer looks to be SNS. But considering that Nike’s unveiling of their All-Star release schedule didn’t include anything for the King, you can expect these to release in a #LeBronWatch-style surprise drop on the day, so stay glued to your SNKRS app during the game.
