Adidas Basketball might be betting big on Anthony Edwards, but the Three Stripes continues to revisit its past with faithful retros and inspired designs. Come Summer 2026, the brand is expected to reissue one of its most-polarizing performance offerings of all-time: the Crazy 2 "USA."
Rebranded, the silhouette and color scheme originally formed part of Kobe Bryant's Adidas Kobe 2 signature roster. The eye-catching pair—clad in a "Better Scarlet/Cloud White/Team Royal Blue" color scheme—made headlines in the early 2000s as the Los Angeles Lakers legend wore it on Opening Night of the 2001-02 NBA season in honor of everyone affected by the tragedy of Sept. 11 of that year.
The Crazy 2 features a peculiar design inspired by the Audi TT Roadster. Its boxy shape and large panels across the upper have won it a "toaster" moniker from some netizens. The commemorative pair proudly dons the flag of the United Sates of America across its design, making it one of the most memorable patriotic basketball shoes in history. As the story goes, Bryant gifted a pair of the "USA" Adidas to rising high school talent LeBron James at the start of his junior year at St. Vincent-St. Mary. "The kid from Akron" famously wore the red, white, and blue-colored style in a nationally-televised game against Oak Hill Academy.
Over the years, game-worn pairs and samples of the former Kobe 2 have sold for up to $156,000 at auction.
A report by Kicks Finder of the sneaker's return adds another tally to the growing list of retro products from the Three Stripes. A recent resigning of Tracy McGrady also promises more performance models from the 2000s to return in all their glory. Due to Bryant's partnership with the Swoosh, any image or likeness to him on the retro will be removed.
