Devoted fans of the 998 have something more to celebrate, with the silhouette's 30th anniversary now officially underway.
Following on from Kith and Frank Lloyd Wright's collaborative effort, New Balance will begin their general release rollout on May 12th, with the 998 silhouettes set to release in a timeless "Grey" and "Silver" colorway.
Although not true to the original design specs from 1993, this upcoming release retains the exceptional quality and comfort that solidified the sneaker's status as a top-performing running shoe three decades ago — and it comes in an era-honoring greyscale theme. A splash of blue enlivens the heel area, while lighter grey shades on the vamp, mid-foot, and tongue add a refreshing touch to the overall design. The ABZORB cushioning underfoot pays homage to the iconic NB 990 series with its grayscale configuration.
