Available Now // Todd Snyder x New Balance 997 “Chalk Stripe”
Around this time last year, New York design Todd Snyder was slaying it on the New Balance 997 for Pride (still our favorite from last year’s lot of releases). Then in December, he took a more nostalgic approach to the silhouette, using the historic Hudson Train Station of NY for inspiration. Now the former Ralph Lauren, J Crew, and Gap designer gears up for his third installment of the silhouette, again arriving with an entirely new aesthetic.
Inspired by seventies fashion trends, namely athletes of the tennis arena, the pair is fittingly dubbed “Chalk Stripe” in ode to the rockstars of the retro courts. Here, the base of the sneaker is retooled with a premium white snakeskin textures and overlayed by beautifully-brushed pigskin overlays in a cool light grey; both of which combine to speak to the elevated minimalism oft-seen on tennis stars of the 1970s who preferred to look just as slick on the court as they did off it. Capping off the mostly-monochrome sneaker are quick flashes of light tan in the rear, while a heavily-contrasting dark grey rubber outsole completes the design.
