The Air Max lineage has visited the ACG department for influence on countless occasions over its history, with this year alone delivering at least half-a-dozen unofficial persuasions. Some have been more rugged and direct than others, but Nike’s next installment of the Air Max line looks to up the altitude — literally — with a duo of “Mountaineering” Air Max 90s on the way.
The releases upgrade with a slew of loops, a utilitarian lace toggle, loosely-woven mesh uppers, and other heavy-duty enhancements. Mudguards and medial upper eyelets arrive in a ballistic mesh-like fabrication, while profile brand panels have been swapped out for metallic hardware. Medial ankles also feature a sleek metallic finish before the pair’s DIY utilitarian flair comes back into play by-way-of exposed reinforced stitching and outdoor-inspired laces. Two pairs are on the way, on in a mix of tan, orange, green, and a larger selection of earth tones, the other in Light Bone, Platinum Tine, and Neon Green, but a release date for both is not yet known.
