Nike Deploys Recycled Rubber on the Nike Air Force 1 Crater

Nike’s upcoming Space Hippie initiative is carrying the torch for the brand’s focus on future sustainability, and a big part of that is at the literal base of it all: Crater Foam. The coarse rubber is made with a blend of standard Nike foams and (at least) 15 percent Nike Grind Rubber. The reduction in virgin material gives a lower carbon footprint and the Nike Grind granules create a really unique texture and color mix on every midsole. Now, after surfacing on the Nike Waffle Racer, the sustainable fabrication has appeared on the Air Force 1 Crater, a sneaker that’s set to take on a few colorways over the Summer/Fall seasons.

First up we have this clean white-based option constructed in heavily tumbled leather and capped with striking metallic silver Swooshes. Recycled rubbers grace the traditional white outsole, and is mimicked by a screen-printed finish on the tongue and heel overlays. Capping off the design is a slew of orange accents, Laser Orange on the tongue and midsole motifs, and vivid Total Orange on the rear Nike Air branding.

Pairs much like this one are expected to arrive in men’s, women’s and kids sizes over the coming months alongside a slew of other options. As for these, you’ll have to sit tight for information on their release — so make sure you keep your eyes glued to our official Twitter account for further updates. Until then, enjoy a detailed look at the pair here below.

Update 07.26.20 A second, black Air Force 1 Crater has appeared, and it arrives in much the same fashion. Uppers have been swapped out to black, whilst the pair’s orange and red branding hits have been flipped. Metallic Swooshes, white midsoles and crater outsoles remain consistent with the previously-previewed white offering. A release date is still yet to be announced, so stay tuned for updates.
