When the sports-inspired Air Force 1 Low “What The LA” surfaced last week, we just knew a New York edition would follow. And here it is, right on cue, a Big Apple mash-up of the silhouette that the city made so iconic. Like the City of Angels edition, this Uptown takes on a true What The-style mashup stemming from the city’s sporting prowess. The flagship Blue, Orange, and Black play a prominent role — as it does through the Mets, Knicks and Islanders franchises (and the once-New York now San Francisco Giants, too.) Pinstripes on the right foot’s lateral panel is a direct callout to the Bronx Bombers, with a multitude of other colors calling out the Rangers, Jets, Giants, Liberty, and Nets — even to the length of including basketball leather on the left heel overlay. Making it official is graffiti-style etching on the lateral heels and insoles.
Are there more cities on the way? Chicago, perhaps? Only time will tell, but until then, take a peep at the mismatched Air Force 1 “What The NY” below, and look out for these to hit select retailers like Finish Line and Nike.com on October 17th.
