Nike‘s continued push into the growing Asian market has resulted in many regional exclusives of late. The Swoosh’s latest capsule has been based around the timeless Air Force 1 Low, a sneaker they hope to develop into a streetwear staple across the continent. The most notable of the pack is Japan’s Shibuya iteration, which takes into account the Tokyo transit system as well as Halloween celebrations. But for China’s Shanghai release — like many of Chinese-exclusives before it — seems to be embedded in the region’s history. Metallic Gold patent leathers anchor the white-based pair at the heel, while complimentary hits on the dubrae, liner, and tongue tag keep the traditional theme on track. While the rest of the sneaker seems to be fairly basic, closer inspection proves that, like the city in question, there are many hidden gems.

Transparent swooshes reveal a grid layout of the city, while mid panels are made up in a beautifully tumbled leather. Toe cap comes in classic smooth leathers, while patent leather toe boxes provide a subtle touch of flair. Completing the design is a cobranded Chinese character that translates to the ancient name of Shanghai. Take a peep at the pair in detail below, and look for these to hit select Swoosh stockists in Shanghai soon.
