This New Air Max 97 is Inspired by Tinker Hatfield’s OG Air Max 1

After the first part of the year was heavily focused around the Air Max 1 and its 35th anniversary, it’s becoming more evident that the next half of 2022 will belong to the brand’s other anniversary Air Max, the 97, with an onslaught of new schemes beginning to appear.. Now the two will converge as one, with this OG Air Max 1-inspired colorway of the Air Max 97.

Taking Tinker’s OG red, grey, and white scheme and plonking it directly onto Christian Tresser’s Air Max 97, Nike has captured both anniversary silhouettes in one. Here you’ll find a direct application of the colorway, from it’s white mesh uppers to its light grey overlays, and its red mudguards and Swooshes. Key differences in the design lay through the material selection, and more obviously underfoot, where its sole employs all-red Air supports, and omits black from outs outer tread. Despite these tweaks, the resemblance is still uncanny.

This is not the first time that the two silhouettes have crossed over, with 2018’s Silver Bullet/OG AM1 mash-up dressed in a similar scheme.

A release date for this OG-inspired Nike Air Max 97 “Air Max 1” is yet to be revealed, but you should expect to see pairs hit select stores and Nike.com in both men’s and women’s sizing over the coming weeks.
