25 years ago, Christian Tresser’s Air Max masterpiece was born. The sneaker’s radical combination of reflective overlays, curved lines, and metallic silver finishes anchored around the brand’s biggest Air bubble yet, was as avant-grade as it got. Like many of Nike’s designs of the era, the shoe was inspired by industrial design, with Japanese bullet train influence so prevalent that its debut colorway quickly became known as the Silver Bullet. That OG offering has been the basis of many off-set colorways, each donning a heavy set of metallics and reflective. And with both the OG and its countering “Gold Bullet” colorways set to return in 2022, it’s time for something new, with this Nike Air Max 97 “Worn Bone” bringing a new twist to the silhouette’s storied lineage.
The pair is entirely dressed in tonal bone hues, shifting only slightly in shades to white and light grey on occasion. Mesh uppers, smooth nylon tongues, and silky satin liners all don tonal hues. Laces, reflective overlays, and pulls follow suit, with the lowermost mudguard adding a pre-worn finish that only slightly showcases a metallic silver underlayer. A clean white midsole, milky-white Air supports, and light bone rubber outsole then complete the pair.
