Nike has a knack for reinterpreting — or borrowing — colorways from other silhouettes. Though it applies to everything from the Air Force 1 to the CB94, It’s most typically done through Jorda Brand’s retro catalog. That’s where this upcoming Nike Air Max Plus “Grape” comes into play, borrowing the famous colorway from the original 1990 Air Jordan 5 of the same name.
While the two designs differ significantly, the colors are unmistakable. With bright white mesh uppers and a striking mix of teal, grape, and black sprinkled throughout, the new TN delivers a brand-new yet-familiar take on the retro hoops shoe. The pair’s blocking is very unique, with black tongues in direct conflict to the aforementioned uppers. Vein overlays work from translucent up top, to purple down below, the latter bleeding into a solid purple mudguard, and fully-translucent toe cap. The rear is capped in black, with white midsoles, and black outsoles completing the bulk of the design. For there, pops of teal are peppered in, from the Air Supports to the midfoot shank, to the midfoot Swoosh outline, and the tongue liner completing the design.
