Nike’s upcoming Air Max2 CB ’94 Low run is getting deeper, with the original “Black/Varsity Purple” colorway also expected to return in low-top form for Spring 2027.
Following news of the “Phoenix Suns” pair, this black-based version keeps things even closer to the model’s hard-nosed basketball roots. The Air Max2 CB ’94 has always been one of Charles Barkley’s most unmistakable signature sneakers, built around bold paneling, chunky tooling, and an aggressive mid-’90s attitude. Now, Nike is preparing to trim the collar while keeping the visual language largely intact.
The pictured mock-up shows the pair in a black nubuck-heavy build with white overlays and midsole pods cutting through the lower half. Varsity Purple accents land on the tongue, inner bootie, visible Air unit, and heel branding, giving the shoe its familiar Suns-era edge without leaning as loud as the white-based pair. A white Nike hit on the lateral midsole and bold “NIKE” branding on the side strap complete the retro look.
While the cut is lower than the original, the shoe still retains much of the CB ’94’s identity, from the layered midfoot setup to the sculpted sole unit. For those who prefer the darker OG palette, this should be the stronger of the two expected low-top releases.
The Nike Air Max2 CB ’94 Low “Black/Varsity Purple” is currently expected to release in Spring 2027. Pricing and firm launch details have not yet been confirmed.
