Completely overlooked for a 20th-anniversary retro in 2019, it now appears that Nike is finally willing to give fans a first-ever retro run of 1999’s Air Tuned Max — and it’s expected to arrive in less than a month.
Released the same year as part of the Swoosh’s forward-thinking Alpha Project, the Tuned Max was hailed as the lightest Air Max ever. Its ultra comfort from the full-length Tuned Air cushioning was met by the then in-vogue iridescent molded Foamposite heel. Since it first released, though, it’s never made a return. In fact, the closest we’ve ever gotten was Skepta’s 2017 Air Max 97 — but there was a big hint thrown our way that a return was on when an inspired Air Max Zephyrappeared late last year. It popped up again in pieces on the Nike Air VaporMax EVO, but now it’s been confirmed to return in its full OG aesthetic on February 25th.
