When the Cortez debuted in 1972, it was made for the track. In fact, the original sneaker it was based on — the Onitsuka Tiger — had gone through countless rounds of retoolings via Bill Bowerman for the benefit of his Oregon track team. It’s a sneaker that always revisits its roots, from the recently-released Los Angeles edition to a special Blue Ribbon Sports release a year or so back. Now it looks to its origins once more, honoring throwback tracksuits and athletic gear of the early 70s era.
Arriving in a classic nylon and suede build, the pair opts for vintage cream and tan finishes. Tri-layered Swooshes sit at the midfoot in athletic hues of navy, green, and gold, which are then replicated at the tongue tags, liners, and heel overlays. The latter, along with the burnt orange insoles, is decorated with a retro-inspired ’72 track motif, and theme replicated on the forefoot’s golden Cortez ’72 dubraes. The pair is then completed by a solid white sole unit hit with dual orange stripes at the rear wedge.
The Nike Cortez “Track Pack” is expected to release alongside a handful of other like-themed releases soon, though a release date was not specified. As always, keep your eyes glued to our official Twitter account for further updates. Until then, enjoy a detailed look at the pair here below.
