You’d be forgiven if you forgot about 2012’s Nike Free Run Trail, but despite its very low-profile, Nike will be reintroducing the silhouette for 2021 — and they’re kicking things off in whimsical style. Arriving as part of a wider Nike retro running collection which includes the Air Max 95, the Nike Free Run Trail “Happy Pineapple” is now the second pair to appear featuring the happy-go-lucky fruit face.
In much the same vein as the aforementioned Air Max 95, this special-edition Free Run release features a simple sail build with vibrant accentuations throughout. Here, it’s the perforated shroud overlay that sports the muted finish, with its cut-aways exposing a vibrant neon green beneath. Embroidered Swooshes on the lateral side carry through the color to the exterior, as do the pair’s eyelets and liners. Gritty cinder-colored gum outsoles continue themes seen on the 95, though here white midsoles are removed in favor of cookies and cream-like fleck. Completing the pair is the cheeky Pineapple motif at the tongue, and cork insoles displaying the retro Nike pinwheel logo at the heel.
A release date for this Nike Free Run Trail “Happy Pineapple” is yet to be revealed, but you should expect to see pairs hit select stores and Nike.com over the coming weeks.
