Kyrie Irving Slams Nike, Calls New Sneaker “Trash”

Nike has been dealt another PR body shot, with signature athlete Kyrie Irving taking aim at his latest sneaker, the Nike Kyrie 8, calling it ‘trash’

The comment was made to an early leak of the pair, of which Irving claims to have ‘nothing to do with’ in terms of its design or marketing. He then goes on to call the sneaker ‘trash’ and claims that Nike plan on releasing the silhouette without his OK, despite his attempts to stop it:

Irving’s comment was posted underneath a leak shared by Kyrie sneaker fan account @k11kicks on Instagram. As of publishing, Irving’s message has been up for four hours and has been liked over 7,500 times.

The rant shows that Kyrie is clearly unhappy with Nike — his comments pointing to a man locked into a contract that he no longer wants to be a part of. The shoe itself is not too dissimilar from those before it, as has been the trend with Kyrie’s signature line for almost a decade, as shown via @sneakerhighway (pictured below).

Last month, a similar scenario played out after a handful of “Mambacita” Nike Kobe 6 sneakers — that were unauthorized to be produced by Vanessa Bryant and the Bryant Estate — were accidentally shipped to retailers and mistakenly sent to customers.

“I do not know how someone else has their hands on shoes I designed in honor of my daughter, Gigi, and we don’t,” said Vanessa.

HOUSE OF HEAT has reached out to Nike for comment, but we’re not immediately available for a response.
