Though he’s had a bit of a hot and cold few years through injury, we know for certain that we still haven’t seen Paul George at his absolute best. On the contrary, his signature sneaker line continues to get better each and every year, with his newest Nike PG 6 expected to be his best yet.
The Nike PG 6 continues to explore the idea that comfort is the “first step to controlling the pace on the hardwood”. To achieve all-day comfort, the PG 6 sports a lightweight minimal upper. A durable and breathable mesh makes up most of the upper. Around the tongue and the heel, extra padding has been added for extra comfort. For lateral support and lockdown, an internal “forefoot arch wrap” has been implemented.
The cushioning of the PG 6 has been overhauled, as the latest signature shoe replaces the Air Dot Weld Strobel for a full-length React midsole. This decision seems to be influenced by Nike’s latest GT series, where core movements within basketball were explored and improved upon by different cushioning technologies. On the tech sheet, the GT Run logo alongside the PG logo gives the impression that Nike intends to tune their signature shoes based on the models within the GT series. However, unlike the GT Run, the PG 6 has a caged React midsole intended for higher responsiveness.
The outsole of the PG 6 has also been designed with comfort in mind. According to the spec sheet, the individual dot-like traction across the outsole acts as pistons to reduce impact and provide on-court feedback.
Originally expected to release in early January, delays have pushed back the debut of the Nike PG 6 indefinitely — but with official images of the first-up White/Crimson colorway now becoming available, one would suggest that a release is imminent.
