Way back in 1980, Nike and tested a new wave of Swooshless trainers through one of their Chinese factories. Though the legendary “The One Line” run of samples is not often directly honored by Nike, one of its annual releases, the Asia-exclusive “NAI-KE” Air Force 1, remembers the project with fond memories. Now, after appearing in a tonal bone and sail selection, the design has come up in a second scheme — this one borrowing a style from across the East China Sea.
Clad from toe-to-tail in sashiko duds of blue suede and contrast white stitchwork. The latter forms the famous One Stripe detail at the midfoot, whilst Swoosh overlays are removed in favor of a weathered effect. Tongues and heel overlays feater and overclocked stitch, the latter joining the insoles in hosting “NAI-KE” insignia. There’s one final call-out to The One Line at the tongue, while the flipside offers meaningful “Elevating Inner Peace Through Sports” text. All fo this rests atop a sail and navy sole unit that’s tacked on with contrast blue stitching.
