Nike’s latest sustainability series, the “Air Spung” collection, has certainly taken an otherwise serious agenda into something significantly more playful. Like their Happy Pineapple pack that hammed up the collection’s usage of recycled fruit fibers, this pack also plays on a key theme: rebirth. Taking something that was once used for another purpose, popping in the cocoon, and out comes a beautiful butterfly is exactly what Nike does with their recycled materials, and this second-up Nike Air Max 97 “Air Sprung” does just that.
Arriving in a darker and more colorful scheme than its alternative cream colorway, this pair brings a little Sean Wotherspoon flavor with greys, yellows, blues, and pinks all present across its multi-material uppers. It’s fitted with pack-specific motifs, including Swoosh-smiling caterpillars, reborn butterflies, and the collection’s signature mushroom man on the insole and outsole.
